Writing Dreams

My friend Lynn is doing a 10 day writing challenge, while I am on the third day of my “however long it takes” manure scoop-along. Anyone want to join me?

I’ll spare you more poop photos, but I finished along the side of the barn and the corner alongside the run-in. And right now I can hear rain hitting the window. Hallelujah! We need rain so bad. And if we get enough moisture, I won’t be able to shovel tomorrow. Too bad…

Last Friday, Lynn and I met at Truffles and Tortes.

Truffles and Tortes

We both brought our copies of the booklet of writing courses being offered at The Loft this Fall. I think we both had about 50 classes marked off that we want to take.

Loft Literary CenterThese classes are one reason I would consider living in the city. I can’t take evening classes during the week because I have to get home to let out the dog and I live too far from the city to go back and forth. But I can take weekend classes and they have a few I’d like to take including:

  • “Writing Your Family Stories: A National Adoption Month Special” – was this class just made for me or what?!
  • “How to Plan, Write, and Develop a Book”, and
  • “Get Published Faster – With Less Stress”
Keeping the writing dreams alive…

But right now, Shy and Java are telling me it’s time for bed.

Goodnight all!

  1. OOO. A loft class would be a great idea for you. Also love the image of you in the city– taking advantage of the lakes and energy of urban life, and going off to ride where you board whenever you feel like it. 🙂

  2. I recently came accross your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

  3. Shy and Java are so cute! We have the same problem when we go to bed!
We have two cats and one dog! But we wouldn’t have it any other way. We find ourselves calling them in here. It doesn’t seem right if they are not here.Infact Cowboy got up early to go fishing, and I am in bed on my computor and all three are here still!!! Have a good day.

  4. Mary…How can two horses produce so much manure?
I have 7 and pick my paddocks and pastures everyday..no tractor, just a wheelbarrow. It does not take me 10 minutes and eliminates flys and worming the horses. Believe me, it is much easier.

It is great that you have a place that offers such neat writing courses. Now that I have this Journal, I am much more interested.

By the way, the communication system for your aunt is fabulous. A lot for just a few days, and it gives her something to look forward to.

  5. That was my idea a perfect Friday night; chocolate, and talking about writng and taking classes. October is starting to look interesting to me. Now I have to just finish a story so I can make some decisions.
Gosh, can’t swing the manure shoveling challenge right now….maybe next year??

  6. The Loft sounds interesting. I was a member of a poetry group for 12 years that met once a week to critique each others’ work and discuss the latest poetry anthologies. It was a good group of people. We had to train newcomers how to accept criticism, though. A lot of new or young writers were more worried about their egos than about learning something new from published writers.

  7. KB – The problem with the poop scoop is they keep pooping! I can’t seem to catch up! And yes, Java is a pretty girl.

Sue – Tough decision. It would be a lot easier on Java if I didn’t have 2 hours drive time to work plus my 8-10 hours work time. But I do like the area I live in now. I’m sure the perfect solution will come to me when I need it.

    Martha – Welcome.

Dusty – Yes, I’m enjoying the company even if they do leave a lot of hair on the sheets.

Lynn – I think manure shoveling would be just the thing for your arm problem. It’s done wonders for mine…

NM – The Loft is a great place. I’ve taken classes there before and won a mentorship from there where I got to have my own little writing studio for a few months. Great, supportive community of writers!

GP – One of the joys of owning horses…

  8. Lori – You do it the smart way, just keeping up on the manure daily. I haven’t figured out how to do that in the winter and the spring when it’s all mud out there and my manure pile is a couple blocks away out at the edge of the pasture. This year there was the added problem of being knocked down and trampled so I’ve got about 9 months of manure I’m trying to catch up on. If only they’d quit messing up the areas I’ve already cleaned!
