Too Tired To Title

Courage doesn’t always roar.  Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I’ll try again tomorrow.  — Mary Anne Radmacher

Too bad this photo turned out blurry. Could have been a great photo of my hard drinking dog.

I’m not sure why she likes to sit like this. It doesn’t look comfortable to me.

I rode Luke today. According to my car, it was 11 degrees out. I felt pretty cold at the beginning of the ride, but both Luke and I warmed up after awhile and it was a good ride.

This is my homeless horse, or at least that’s what I call him in his patched up winter blanket that I believe I’ve had for at least 20 years. I had a nicer blanket on Luke but it was about 2 sizes too big.

Of course, when I approached the fence to take photos. everyone wanted their picture taken.

Yesterday, I only rode Luke for about 20 minutes because we were having a Christmas party at the stable and that’s about all the time I had before the party started.

I may not be happy about all the changes in my life, but I am so glad to have these new friends. I’m hoping our hostess with the mostess gets her photos e-mailed to us soon because I think there will be some good ones of our hula hoop contest. The person who spun the hoop around the most times won a candle, and let me tell you how lovely that candle smells. Who knew my hips still had those kinds of moves left in them?

After I got home from riding today, Java and I went for a walk by the river.

It’s been so cold that ice has formed, creating some interesting ice sculptures.

Java and I arrived home to see what is an almost full moon.

December 21st is winter solstice, the moon will be full, there’s supposed to be a lunar eclipse, and  Ursids meteor shower too. An eventful evening to look forward to.

Oh, and what does my initial quote have to do with my blog post? Nothing really, just encouraging words for me and anyone else that’s feeling the need to know that tomorrow there’s another chance to try, try again.

  1. I’ve recited that quote to myself on several occasions throughout my life. Isn’t the river hauntingly beautiful these days? It seems the more stark the weather, the more beauty on the river. Hey, I won a hula hoop contest last year as well. The only bad thing was that the next day or so, I could hardly move…I twisted my back or something. Man, this aging thing is so darn fun:-) Please don’t challenge me to a hoop-off because I am still afraid of your threat to “take me down!” You look so sweet and kind to animals and all that, but inside there lurks a wild Jersey girl or something:-) Stay warm girl and keep those hips moving! Kathleen

  2. I really like the 2nd to the last picture. Brrr, but beautiful.

At least after Dec 21, the days start getting longer… a few seconds at a time, but its a good thing. 🙂

  3. We have to go skiing after Christmas! I’m so glad you’re enjoying some of the cool things that have cropped-up as a result of your changes. 🙂

  4. Your a brave woman to ride at eleven degrees. I force myself to go out and do chores when the temp plummets.

Love your pics of the horses, Java and especially that moon shot! It’s just great!

God bless ya and have a warm marvelous day!

  5. Congrats on your candle! I love to hula hoop! Riding at 11 degrees….Brrrr..I hope it is clear enough to see the eclipse and I also look forward to the days becoming a bit longer. Java is a hoot.

  6. Thanks for those opening words. I needed them…

Those are spectacular photos of the river! Wowee! Amazing sculptures and the sun setting…

Luke is looking great. And, please don’t let Java do any more binge drinking 🙂

  7. Kathleen – Rivers fascinate me. Interesting the way the ice pushes against itself and forms those ridges. I saw a couple deer too and tracks that went down to the river. I hope they don’t actually try to cross. I don’t know about a Jersey girl. I like to think that Xena the warrior women is my alter ego.

Tammy – Yes, the worst of the darkness is ending. On with longer days!

Lori – It’s hard to motivate in the cold but the thought that it could be colder gets me out there. Of course none of us at the barn will ride when it drops below zero. We tell ourselves that it’s for the welfare of our horses.

Sue – I almost went skiing on the way home from the stable but the sun was starting to get low. We will definitely have to go after the holidays.

Nezzy – It’s not so bad after you get moving. Right?

Jill – I didn’t realize there are actual exercise hula hoops that are more weighted. It was interesting.

Roxanne – Yoga huh? She is pretty darn flexible and spends a great deal of time staring contemplatively.

KB – I’ll try and keep a better eye on Java.
