Last Friday I moved Luke out of his familiar home of the past five years to a new stable. Then Sunday, Steve and I did our first mini-bike tour — riding 56 miles to Carver Park reserve where we camped overnight…
In the not so distant past, my reaction to fear was to have panic attacks that turned my body into the enemy, which was a good distraction from battling ‘the thing’ that was making me afraid in the first place. Such attacks are rare now and when they happen, it’s on a smaller scale. Face your fears… that’s my current motto.
Last Saturday morning, it was too cold to horseback ride but I wanted to give Luke a chance to walk on something besides the hard packed ice and snow in the paddock. So lead line in hand, I took my horse for a stroll behind the barn and out on the paths that wind through the woods.
Last Friday, I took a post New Years vacation day and rode Luke in the morning. We had a good indoor arena ride, out of the wind and off the frozen, icy ground.
As I sat getting my hair trimmed at the salon and “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” boomed through the sound system, I thought of poor Rudolph and how no one let him join in any reindeer games…
